Through the Lens is a creative media arts program with a ‘fokus’ on Photography and Literary Arts. Participants will learn about the similarities of the camera and the pen/pencil and how both can capture a story.
Through the hands-on use of digital cameras, iPads, lighting equipment and other media arts tools, students will learn the basics of photography while applying the use of literary elements to create narratives based on their images.
This program culminates with a gallery showcase displaying a selection of photographic & literary work developed during our sessions and a distribution of booklets filled with a collection of images from our students.
Students will develop skills within the following areas: photography, literary arts, organization, planning and goal implementation strategies.

Our learning objectives are based on Bloom's Taxonomy which is a hierarchical classification of the different levels of thinking. The six major categories are: Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation.

Comprehension: Students will be able to characterize, describe, explain, identify, locate the parts of a camera, elements of photography, design principles of photography, figures of speech, literary techniques, thematic meaning, etc.
Application: Students will be able to apply the knowledge that they have gained on photography and literary arts in order to capture images and build creative writing pieces surrounding the theme of the program.
Analysis: Students will be able to analyze, edit and organize the work created in order to construct a finished product.
Synthesis: Students will be able to construct, design, organize, and implement a plan of action in order capture images and creative writing work to showcase in a collective book
Evaluation: Students will be able to assess, critique, evaluate and rank their work as well as their peers
