Session #5 Recap

What We Learned.png

Our students visited and toured CEPA Gallery under the guidance of Education Director, Lauren Tent where they were able to view the current photography exhibition, Felicfic Calculus by Eric Kunsman. While capturing images within the gallery they were able to learn about the many different career opportunities that are available within the world of photography.

After our tour, students received a hands-on lesson within the darkroom. Through a chemical process they were all able to develop photograms which is a photographic image made without a camera by placing objects directly onto the surface of a light-sensitive material such as photographic paper and then exposing it to light. After our time in the darkroom we had a discussion in which students reflected on their experiences at CEPA Gallery.

CEPA Gallery is a contemporary photography and visual arts center located in the city of Buffalo with impact in both local and national communities.

Student Quotes: What did you learn that you never want to forget?

It takes patience... you have to take time and you cant really rush it because if you rush it, it won’t come out the way you want it.
— Braelyn
You have to trust the process and have an imagination.
— Myelle
I would like to do this again.
— Mykiss
It’s something out of the ordinary...
You wouldn’t expect to wake up one morning and then just start putting things on a paper and then dipping in chemicals to create some sort of photo.
— Ava
Thank you for this, I really like it here.
